Hi everyone, how was your week? Mine was great. Lots of Christmas parties and plenty of food. Anyway here’s a recap of all news women related that happened this week.

Nollywood Actress, Nkiru Sylvanus Kidnapped.
Veteran Nollywood actress and the Special Adviser, Public Affairs to the Imo State governor, Nkiru Sylvanus was kidnapped by gunmen in Owerri the Imo state capital on Monday. She was later released after 3 days in captivity and her family says they paid her kidnappers 8million naira as ransom.

Sigh. What can I say at this point? Thank God she’s okay, but this is really getting out of hand.

South Korea Elects First Female President.
In more positive news, South Korea elected its first female president this week. Park Geun-hye, the 60 year old daughter of former president Park Chung-hee was chosen to be the country’s next leader. This is a step in the right direction for a country that is heavily male dominated and ranks 108th in the World Economic Forum’s 2012 gender-gap rankings.

Yay! Girl power. We love news like this. Hopefully one day, Nigeria will get a female president, not holding my breath though.

Hilary Clinton To Step Down As US Secretary Of State.
Hilary Clinton who ran against Obama for the Democratic Party’s nomination is to step down as Secretary of State after four years in that position. For now there’s no word on whether she still intends to run for President in 2016.

US President Barack Obama has named Senator John Kerry as her successor. Hilary Clinton for me is one of those women who prove that you can have a family and a demanding career as well, especially if you have a supportive spouse. She’s a well respected woman and we wish her all the best.

Victims Of Sandy Hook Elementary School Massacre Laid To Rest.
The funerals of the victims of one of the most heartbreaking tragedies this year have begun. 26 people, 20 children all aged  between 6 and 7 and 6 adult women were killed, when 20 year old Adam Lanza went on rampage at the elementary school last week Friday.

The story horrified and saddened not only residents of Newton, Connecticut where it took place, but also people around the world.

Most of the victims were laid to rest this week as family, friends and even strangers mourned and struggled make sense of what happened. May their souls rest in peace and may their loved ones find peace and healing.

Were The Mayans Misunderstood Or They Were Just Wrong?
I’m sure we’re all aware that the Mayans predicted that the world as we know it would end on Friday the 21st day of December 2012. Well guess what? It didn’t end (obviously). So were they wrong? Well some have argued that they never said the world was going to be destroyed like many thought, but that that day would usher in a ‘new age of enlightenment’.

Well, whatever they meant, I’m sure glad the world didn’t end on Friday. Aren’t you?

Anyway, that’s all I have for you this week.

So how are the Christmas plans going? As we get older, the excitement wanes a bit, doesn’t it? Well, this season is a season of love, family, friends and all the things we are thankful for and we should focus on that. From all of us here’s wishing you a very Merry Christmas!
