Is One-Sided Open Marriages The Key To Marital Bliss For Some Women?

By Mo

I was watching an interview on TV recently. They were interviewing a well known Nigerian celebrity couple, and the man was asked why he chose his wife. One of the reasons he gave was that he chose her because she was different from other women he dated. So different that she used to pack condoms in his suitcases to take with him whenever he was going on trips to protect himself when sleeping with other women!

I was so surprised that a woman buys condom for her man to protect himself when he wants to sleep with other women, but then I remembered that I have heard it before.

A friend I met during my NYSC told me that when her boyfriend was going for his NYSC she bought him more condoms than he could ever finish in the one month he would be gone for. Why? Because she knew he will sleep with other women in her absence. Her theory is that if you can’t stop him; keep him protected from STDs and unplanned pregnancies and by doing so you are keeping yourself protected too. I opened my mouth wide in surprise.

I haven’t heard about so many women buying their husbands condoms, but I know women who know their husband sleeps around, but as long as he takes care of the home and kids and keeps the other women outside the home, they are willing to take their eyes away from it. Sometimes the men even know that their wives are aware of their affairs but their marriages go on like nothing is wrong.

I have even been in a women’s group where the general consensus about cheating husbands is to give yourself peace of mind by ignoring it because there is nothing you can do if a man wants to cheat.

I still wonder, are these women smarter than women like me that keep saying we will never take infidelity from men? Is accepting a one-sided open marriage key to marital bliss for some marriages?

A recent medical journal published that that condoms don't offer 100% protection against STD and pregnancy. If a lady tells me that she buys condoms for her husband for such purpose, then I will conclude that she does sleep around or will do that if she hss the chance.

A lady can buy condom for her husband. Of course it does prevent pregnancy even if not 100%.

This shows how much decay and rottenness the people and society have become. The marriage institution is no more scared and respected; God has been removed out of it and that is why such evil is acceptable to some people and it is becoming a norm. May God forgive everyone who is involved as he /she repents.
