Cover Girl: 10 Lessons I Learned From Betty Irabor As Genevieve Magazine Clocks 10
Genevieve Magazine celebrates its 10th anniversary this month and for the first time, the graceful Betty Irabor, who is the Editor-in-chief and CEO covers the Magazine.
In her interview with Christopher Charles, she tells us all about how she started and has persisted over the years to build Genevieve into a top magazine that it is today. There is so much to learn from this amazing woman but here are a few things I learned from the interview.
Don’t let people tell you that you can’t achieve your dreams because you are too young or too old. If you believe in it and know you have all it takes to succeed at it. Then go for it. It is never too late.
Doing things right is a challenge but doing things right consistently is even a greater challenge. Focus on excellence for yourself, and keep striving to maintain that standard against all odds.
You will have doubt, people will discourage you, and there will be many obstacles on your way. But if you believe in what you have set out to achieve, then you’ve got to keep going even when you are afraid.
From the time you conceive the idea all through the life of the business, don’t assume it will be an easy ride, there will be mountains to scale, be ready to deal with them.
You have a right to dream, you have a right to pursue your dream and you have a right to expect the best from it. When the journey gets tough, you will need this conviction to get through.
For your idea to work, you need to pour yourself into it. Let the passion to see it succeed consume you and drive you to heights you never imagined. Don’t just throw money into it and expect it to blow, throw YOU into it as well.
Having degrees and qualification that match what you want to do is nice, but even if you don’t have it don’t let that hinder you from starting. Let your passion for success drive you to get all the knowledge and resources you need to succeed at it.
There are probably so many things that can come out of that one single idea you have. Don’t be rigid, get creative and move with the times.
When your dreams have become successful be grateful to God and everyone who helped you achieve it. Be grateful that you made it despite all the obstacles.
Don’t get complacent because of your present level of success, arm yourself with great foresight and be ready to take the lead today and tomorrow.
